Karl Beecher is a freelance consultant, teacher and writer who specialises in IT and computer science. He tries to straddle the line between industry and academia.

In the past, he has worked as a software engineer, but more recently moved to Berlin, Germany and became a research associate at Freie Universität Berlin. Karl remains based in Berlin, but accepts clients from anywhere in the world.

He obtained his PhD from the [University of Lincoln, UK](http://www.lincoln.ac.uk) in 2009, where his main research interest was the evolution of FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open Source Software).
